Plumb Skyes newest novel, “Wives Like Us,” is an incredible mixture of fashion, drama, and English countryside flair. It’s like Vogue, Pride & Prejudice, and the Real Housewives of London (should be a series get with it Bravo) got together and created this work of art. From the first sentence you’re captured by the interesting nature and emphasis on good skin of the butler of one of the women featured in the story. You learn quickly that the butler is fabulous and highly desirable; and I don’t even want to Google the butler schools mentioned that he attended because I’d love to believe they’re real and I don’t want to be disappointed.
There are a handful of wives that are focused on fashion and besting each other in the outfits they don and the parties their staff (like the fabulous butler) throw for them, and the setting in this funny Oxforshire county makes for a romantic setting to the peculiarities of their relationships. There’s romance and heartbreak, there’s a near death, and some good old financial ruin. This is the type of book you can escape into and find some comfort especially if a little bit of Jane Austen, Andy Cohen, and Coco Chanel brings you joy. It certainly does for me and this book was a cute combination of all my favorite things.
