If you’re new here, welcome. I’m a writer and stylist, and lover of all things aesthetically pleasing. A space that I’m so excited to introduce to you all is interior styling! It’s so rewarding being able to help style people for everything from events to their everyday life, but what I’ve found is that can easily extend into styling their spaces. We know the way you dress impacts your mental health, but so too does the way you style your space. Whether it’s insta style for your living space or something traditional, it’s so rewarding to be inspired in your home!
Your physical environment has just as much impact on your soul and your happiness as your clothes do. And it’s so important to think about your style holistically. It can feel really disorientating when the style of your home doesn’t match your closet. It’s not to say they have to, but there’s this beautiful cohesion that happens when you consider all things in your physical environment.
How to find your house style
Oh my goodness this is one of the most exciting things to uncover in life: when you find your home style. It’s the same type of satisfaction when you find your personal style. Of course we’re Allison Bornstein stands here so we believe in the three word method (see below) and when it clicks and you realize what your style is it feels like you’re understanding a deeper part of yourself; like you’re putting words to your identity. It’s so exciting. 🙂

- Traditional: Classic, timeless elements like ornate furniture, warm wood tones, and structured layouts.
- Bohemian: Eclectic, colorful, and layered, with lots of textiles, patterns, and natural materials.
- Coastal: Light, airy spaces with a beach-inspired color palette, natural textures, and a relaxed vibe.
- Industrial: Exposed brick, metal, and wood, with a raw, unfinished look.
- Farmhouse: Rustic yet polished, with distressed wood, cozy textiles, and vintage-inspired touches.
- Mid-Century Modern: Retro yet functional, with geometric shapes, bold colors, and a focus on furniture design.
- Scandinavian: Minimal but cozy, with light woods, neutral tones, and a focus on natural light.
How your personal style influences your house style
Your home should feel like an extension of you. If your personal style leans toward tailored, structured outfits, a minimalist or modern house style might resonate. If you love flowing fabrics, layered jewelry, and earthy tones, a bohemian or farmhouse style could be your vibe. Think about what excites you in your clothing choices—textures, colors, patterns—and consider how these elements might translate into how you style your home.
For example:
- If you love black leather jackets and sleek boots, you might gravitate toward industrial interiors with metallic finishes and moody color palettes.
- If you prefer soft pastels and flowy dresses, you might enjoy a Scandinavian or coastal style with light, airy tones and natural textures.
How to discover your living space style
This process is so helpful when you start to style your space.
- Reflect on Your Personal Style
- Take note of what you love wearing and why. Is it the comfort, structure, or colors that appeal to you?
- Write down words that describe your personal aesthetic, such as “relaxed,” “sophisticated,” “vibrant,” or “timeless.”
- Create an Inspiration Board
- Use Pinterest or a physical board to gather images of interiors that catch your eye for your home. Don’t overthink it—just save what you’re drawn to.
- Once you have a collection, look for patterns. Are there recurring colors, materials, or shapes?
- Identify Key Elements
- Break down what you love in your inspiration board. Is it the light in the space, the furniture style, or the overall vibe?
- Note the overlap between your personal style and the elements in these spaces.
- Start Small
- Experiment with small spaces, like an entryway or a bedroom corner, to incorporate elements of your preferred style.
- Add decor items like rugs, lamps, or art that reflect your aesthetic.
- Consider Functionality
- Think about your lifestyle. If you love entertaining, your style might include open spaces and cozy seating. If you prefer quiet relaxation, focus on creating a calm, personal retreat.
- Let It Evolve
- Your style doesn’t have to be static. As you live in your space, you’ll discover what works and what doesn’t and then you’ll be able to style your space in the best way for you! Embrace the process and let your house style grow with you.

If you find yourself drawn to multiple insta styles for your living space, don’t worry—most people do! A minimalist base with bohemian accents or a farmhouse feel with industrial lighting can create a layered, unique look. The key is balance: choose one style as your foundation and add touches of another style to enhance the space.
